Giving up two of my favorite things is not easy, but it sure is a good way to feel healthier. Im posting this on the blog to make it that much more official. *Effective Feb 16th I am cheese and booze free. I plan to do this until I run the San Diego marathon on May 31st. Then the program will be evaluated and we'll see...

*Accidentally sunk my teeth into a bagel and cream cheese on 2/19. I'm giving myself this one slip up since it was early in the morning and I wasnt yet thinking clearly. I will be much more careful in the future!!

SuperBowl Sunday

We skipped the SuperBowl hoopla and enjoyed a lovely day on Mt Hood. It was a nice day and we had great weather! Carlos' first time on skis - had a few tense moments, but he did very good.

Carlos and I got Will some new Nikes for Xmas. It might have been his favorite Christmas eve gift. After opening them he proceeded to run non-stop for 20 minutes or more. He also said that Carlos made them. So cute!

Im just no good at blogging! Im happy there are those people out there that care though! So for all of you 3 or 4 or 5 that check this page out, here is an entry. Our good friend Kevin recently left Portland for the land of Peru. We don't know when we might see him again and we wish him well. He had a special going away party that started out with a BEER MILE around dusk. I happened to have A & K's Sports Day(a day full of sports with one of my very best friends Amy. It happens about every 7 years ) this very same day and was pretty tired by the time I got there but I gave it my best, which turned out to be one beer and one lap. Here is a video showing the entire BEER MILE. If you get bored skip ahead to about 7 minutes and you will see the exciting finish. Enjoy. Congrats to Kevin for handling this race like a real champ. The youtube quality is not 100% but you'll get the point.

Mt. St. Helens

Mt. St. Helens is most famous for its catastrophic eruption on May, 18, 1980 which was the deadliest and most economically destructive volcanic event in the history of the United States. Carlos, Amy, Andy, and I set out to summit this active stratovolcano on the morning of August 24th. We started early enough at 730 am and hiked for about 3.5 tough hours before reaching the top. The day could not have been better. We saw some spectacular views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. Washington, and the beautiful lakes and trees surrounding the area. I expected a challenging hike, but was not quite prepared for the amount of massive boulders and loose rock we had to navigate and climb through. I thought it was going to be a mountain hike, but it was definitely more of a mountain climb in my opinion. Round trip it took us about 6.5 hours. This may have been due to our quick departure from the summit due to gale force winds, or maybe we just climb fast. Amy went into, quote, "the fetal position" due to fear of being swept into the crater at the top while we snapped some quick photos and took in the highest views which included a smoke plume from the crater and Mt. Ranier.

Why am I taking the GRE?

Good question. Im not sure. I think I might want to do something in Public Health, but really I think i just want to find something that might not be boring...that might include other people....that might feel a tad bit more meaningful. Ive heard other people working in the health field say that they like their jobs. They actually enjoy what they do. It's a genuine like. They dont sit at their desks "surfing the net" trying to pass time the way so many seem to do. Hmmmm...well Im gonna take the GRE and I guess we shall see.

I made a promise to have a blog entry by the end of last week, but my week was interrupted by the birth of a new little Rosling! How could I blog when I had to rush down to Corvallis to meet Ella Jewell?? And now I actually have something to blog about! I met my beautiful little niece last Thursday. It was pretty exciting. She's so little and new and cute. I can't wait to see her again! Congratulations Michael and Tonya!
